Does anyone know if electric cars are available for sale On Bonaire? Does the Island give any break to the import of an electric car ?
thanks , Anne

I saw the Prius C Hybrid at a dealer a few years ago, been looking for a Plug In Electric Vehicle myself. Since the road tax is different for diesel and gas cars I expect it is also different for all electric cars. Also heard the Taxes and Duty on cars is less for those that get better mileage. Do not have details, but would also like to know more about this.

Took an Island Tour on Bon Tuk electric vehicles, had to switch vehicles between north and south parts of tour because battery won't last for entire tour. Don't know if the heat ruins the batteries or reduces the range for the vehicles. I did inquire about buying a Nissan Leaf all electric in the states and shipping it to Bonaire. There were two issues.

To maintain the warranty on the battery it must be inspected yearly, and the dealer on Bonaire is not equipped to do this, and the electricity on Bonaire will not work with the EVSE which is supplied with the Leaf from the states. You would need to buy one that matches the electricity 220V 50Hz.

If anyone has more up to date info please let us know, Thanks

Thanks for the info, Electric car would be cleaner which would be very helpful for the island. The maintenance is also more efficient since you have no oil changes. I will look into more when I get there...

I would only drive an electric car if you are sure there is a dealer that can maintain your car.
I would be pleasantly surprised if a dealer on Bonaire could supply this service.
In The Netherlands I drive a full electric car (Tesla), which has many advantages, but needs regular specialist support.
On Bonaire I would choose the most popular brand with little electronics. Easy to maintain.

Yes , I agree, proper maintenance is important. What do you think about the Tesla powerwall? I was also thinking it would be useful with solar energy in Bonaire.

Tesla power wall is an interesting product:

Does it have enough power to give you the energy when you need it
Does it need service and will you be able to get it on the island

I am very happy with my Tesla model S.
But as an early adapter I encountered many problems.

Why am I still happy with my car? Because Tesla has a service organization which solved all the problems.
They picked up my car at home or at my office at the day\time that suited me best.
They supplied, free of charge, a loaner. And then they returned my car again,

Except for a set of new tires, I had to spend no money at all at my car.
Now, just imagine I would have lived in a country where no service organization was available ……..
The same goes for the power wall.

I just read in the Amigoe, that Aruba is going to cooperate with Tesla.
That's near by.
The article is in Dutch, but maybe you can translate it online. It's on page 9
