Hello Bonaire lovers!

We are purchasing a new apartment on Bonaire (hooray!)

We read in this forum that US citizens can now stay up to six months a year on Bonaire, but all the old online info everywhere else says 3 months per 6 month period. Can anybody give us an authoritative answer on this?

We are hoping to say 5 months in 2017 and 1 month in 2016.

thanks!
Anthony

Anthony:

The answer is 6 months in any 12 month period, does not say calendar year, FYI. RCN website has this explanation:

https://www.rijksdienstcn.com/en/immigration-and-naturalization-service/entry-requirements-for-american-citizens

Any 6 months out of 12 ... we (US citizens) are now, more or less, treated like Dutch citizens due to a change in the law in March 2015

As mentioned, American citizens now enjoy the status of Dutch nationals for purposes of immigration in Bonaire. I'm pretty sure, however, that the "one year" mentioned on the RCN website (https://www.rijksdienstcn.com/en/immigration-and-naturalization-service/dutch-nationals-from-elsewhere) is a calendar year. If so, that would mean you could stay longer than six months if you started in the second half of the year. In your case, this would free you from the worry of counting the days on your 5-month/1-month plan. To be sure, I suggest you address this question directly to info@RijksdienstCN.com. When you get an answer, please post it hear.
