After getting sedula, how long can you be off island before sedula is no longer valid?
Thanks

At the moment, a sedule is valid for 5 years and then you need to renew it. At the moment, the authorities are not checking on how much time "residents" spend and don't spend here. If you are a "resident" and have a sedula you SHOULD file an income tax report every year (even if your taxes are zero), and be registered at the Bevolking (Civil registry) as living on Bonaire at a specific address. If you do those two things, you should not have any problems. However, the RCN is imposing more and more rules here to make this more like Holland, so this situation could change at any time.

However, if you are a US passport holder and Bonaire Resident, you can only qualify for ex-pat tax treatment if you spend a maximum of 28 days in the US. For a more detailed explanation of the tax issues, ask you tax professional.

Also, Canadian passport holders have a limit to how long each year they can live outside of Canada and still qualify for the national health insurance.

It pays to check the implications of being a Bonaire resident on your status in you home country as well.
