My wife and I will be going back to Bonaire in november. During our last holiday there, two years ago, we were sadened by the apparant coral bleaching at several of our favorite divesites. Karpata had become like a snowy desert, quite the opposite of the way we remembered it from previous visits. I would like to know if the situation has (hopefully) improved or not.

all back to normal now, but can't speak to the situation you may be having in November. Water temps are on the rebound and could venture into the
bleaching realm by this fall.

Yes, the corals recovered nicely during the 2011 season. But who knows how this summer will go. Hopefully we will get some trip reports about water temps in August/September and some views on the corals. As a totally unrelated aside, our water temps here in the mid-Atlantic are quite warm right now -- 65F at 85 feet this past weekend. I hate sweating in a drysuit!
