For all of our visitors to BonaireTalk and the Bonaire WebCams that can't be with us in person on Bonaire April 15-22nd, we invite you to support Dive In To Earth Day with a "Virtual" dive.

Add your message to this conversation to Support Dive In To Earth Day. 'Sign' your name, hometown and country and maybe a comment or two.

Or let your creativity show and post a dive related picture as well. (Creativity counts - see my other post about Bonaire WebCam T-shirts!)

At the end of April 22nd, we print out this entire conversation and present it with our StreetCam and ReefCam signup sheets to CORAL in support of Earth Day. You can see the full press release if you're interested in the gory details. http://www.CaribbeanWebCams.com/PR-EarthDay-20010412.html

Jester at the gate. Although, the mystery Jester is unusual looking, the message is not. We, of the Cam Community can all agree with the message. In addition, the health of the coral reefs is all of our responsibilities.

In honor of Earth Day 2001, I want to be counted among the many who love, study and protect our oceans, such a vital part of life on Earth.

This photo of myself with a school of tarpon captures the first moment of pure wonder and thrill I experienced underwater, 1:30 pm, May 1st, 1997: my second day as a scuba diver, age 40. (Photo credit to Angelika, divemaster, (Fisheye), aboard the Caymanite.)

Just wanted y'all to know that we didn't skip out of Bonaire because of the week's worth of Earth Day activities we had scheduled at our house/office (contrary to what our house sitter thought). Above, we kicked off the snapshots (nice capture Hazel!).

Below, we shared our Earth Day support while at Disney's Epcot during the Living Seas aquarium dive I did last Thursday (April 19th). The little person in front of the glass is our daughter Yana, with me wet and loving it behind the glass - the Jake Fish :-)

Disney Epcot Living Seas - Dive Into Earth Day 2001 Bonaire

Linda tells me that when she overheard people commenting on the sign, none of them knew what "Bonaire" was...

Nifty -- the Living Seas folks let you bring the Earth Day sign into the tank? I'm impressed... how many times did you have to sterilize it before they'd let it in? :)

Actually, they said people do it all the time for greeting family and stuff, and if given advance notice, they will even prepare signs for people. On this dive they even gave us little etch-a-sketch slates so we could write messages to family on the other side of the window (and gave them slates too!). They were a little perturbed by the fact the sign I had was not a family one, but appeared to be commercial in nature. I explained to them what it was for and they relented :-)

Well, lookit you reef rats!!! You did some good job! I feel like I could take 1 giant stride and swim around that good-lookin' reef for a long time. You all have worked so hard and so well, and I see you've already learned to check your equipment. I see fins, and masks and all kinds of stuff. So here's the very best thing I can say about anybody. Red Creek Reef Divers, I'd be proud to have any of you for my 'dive buddy'. See ya near,on or under some ocean, someday! You,too, Mrs. Scharosch(Teacher Extraordinaire) Now, that's what I call an Earth Day Present. And Future!

Hazel,

Linda and I just saw the latest CORAL newsletter, and one of your class photos is one of the two photos used to mention how successful Dive Into Earth Day was! Bravo!

The other was the UW photo of Jack Chalk at the Bonaire ReefCam.
