Looks like we'll be losing all the cams for a day or two, there's a Tropical Depression ---140
miles...225 km...north of Curacao.
\image[2]
.
Our little desert Island will be getting wayyy too much rain, but then it's coming my way (Virgins)as a hurricane, tomorrow. sigh.

Shoot me, I'm the messenger! All will be sunny and calm in a day or two, not to worry, but to be prepared!

Mm

It was a dark and stormy...morning?

Say, everyone, does anyone ever go out West to Slagbaai park anymore? The sea might be calmer there. Or are the roads gone?

Someone very special must be on island to make such crummy weather. Poor them!

Watching the cams this morning and the radar from Weather Underground reminds me of Lenny years ago. Sounds like it won't be nearly as bad this time around. More of an inconvenience than anything.

Looks like one intrepid explorer decided to brave the elements...

Good for the advanced windsurfers. I wonder what the wind mph is?

According to Weather Underground, the wind is out of the SW at around 18 MPH. It looks a lot worse than that.

I hate the think that dock is about to break up. If it does I wonder if it will take as long to replace as the ones that were damaged '99.

Not really much wind, for the effect, 40 mph, and the center is over 100 miles, 200+ kilometer away. They finally gave it a name, Omar.

Wasn't it Ivan about four years ago that tore up a few docks? None were completely destroyed like Lenny (thank goodness). Also, a lot of the places will take up planks so they don't loose them. Poor Andre at BDA...he's doing work on his dock:-(

Molamola, I thought it might be from the dock too, but in the one pic, it almost looks like the handrail from a wooden staircase?

Anyone on island want to go around and give us some live updates and pics???

I was here for Ivan and Felix..to me, the waves are bigger today. I have body surfed both but today no way. I tried at Windsock but came in immediatel as there is a lot more rubble and the waves are massive pounding the shoreline. There is dock debris in the water in Belnem. From my house the spray goes as high as Windsock. The foundations south of Punt Vierkant are submerged.

Linda, Tonky and Kiri were sailing out of Kas de Regatta. I saw someone try to kite at Windsock very briefly. I would be on a 3.5 with my Gath helmet if I had gear on the Playa side.

Cyndelee, I saw those .. but cannot see when tis pics where shot ? Maybe they were shot way earlier today.
I'd say because multiple sites now here (NL) say that Karel's was totally swept away ..
I do feel it's quite exagerated (ehmm, tricky word), but who knows .. in the end Bonaire is just a needle in a haystack when it comes to storms.

Let's just sit and wait, I only leave in 286 days .. should be over by then ..

The tug boat was guiding an oil boat in from BOPEC. I was in Sabadeco at a b day party watching the two tugs. I drove down playa lechi from Yellow Submarine to Kas Di Regatta. The road was blocked from debris. I was at Habitat prior. The restaurant is serving a small buffet for guests in the front as the entire restaurant is wet from intense spray. The sea is littered with debris. Everyone is comparing today to Lenny. Since I was in Antigua for Lenny I cannot comment. Having lived on Cape Cod for many years today does not phase me but for locals it is very intense. I pray the night quiets down but the wind and rain in Belnem has picked up from the outer bands of Omar.

I think that tomorrow morning there's gonna be bad news in a lot of places, it's not raining as heavy as last night, but seems like it's not gonna stop for the night, same with the winds, but when walking around playa you can see how bad it is.
Hope this stops through out the night!!

Hi All,

The destruction is really sad news.

Any news on how things are looking for the next week? I am coming your way in 48 hours and am curious if I should pack some additional (rain) clothes.

I also read one of the hotels was seriously damages (on nu.nl). Any idea which hotel?
