By this time last year I had received the expat tax book from the IRS, but this year there's no sign of it. Has anybody received one I could borrow for a day or so to copy some instructions and forms? My computer's too slow to download all I would need.

What tax book is that? I've never received anything like that from the IRS on Bonaire (but maybe my accountant gets one?).

The IRS sends expats a much thicker book than the one sent to US residents. It contains a lot more forms and instructions.
You don't receive it because you use an accountant. I do my own taxes--but I can't if I can't borrow the book. Help, somebody!

I know absolutely nothing about taxes or your situation, but I just took a look at the IRS website an it seems to me you should be able to download and print in PDF format anything you would need. If you know the form numbers it would help a lot, as there is a very long list.

Thanks, Mickey, but as I explained in my original message, my computer is too slow to download what I need, and phone connection charges here are high. I can't buy the ink cartridges for my printer on Bonaire at all and paper is expensive here too. We're talking about many pages of instructions and forms. You must not live on Bonaire, or you must have a broadband connection.
Does anybody have the expat IRS book??? Mine must have vanished in the mail.

Tish, You could always ask a trusted friend stateside to get one and then find some helpful BTer coming down to bring it. Perhaps Dee Scarr gets one? You might try her locally as she doesn't keep up with BT. Dara

Tish, I think Mike was talking about Chat and Browse, download the forms there, burn them to a CDR, and view them on your home computer at your leisure. Probably the cheapest way to go.

I thought "here" meant Bonaire. Then I realized it's a tad more specific.
Still hoping somebody has a book.
Dara suggested she copy them all in a US library--talk about kind offers!! But if somebody has to spend hours on this, it ought to be me.

If you're still desperate for this in a week (when I get back home), then stop by my house (around the corner from yours as you know), and I can let you use my Internet connection and laser printer to print out what you need. I'm only back home for a week though, so plan ahead ;-)

Note that if you're filing with the IRS as an American residing abroad, you get an automatic extension to file your returns (providing, of course, that you have already paid into the IRS everything you will owe for your 2004 taxes). I think our returns having been getting files in August with no penalty each year.

There's an exception to the extension rule. It does not apply to anyone who is in the US on April 15th. Because so many Broadway shows open in April, I must be in NYC on April 15th every year reviewing plays.
And because of the dependence of my US taxes and my Bonaire taxes on the figures in the other return, I must do them both before I leave Bonaire. Lots of catch 22s, huh!
