Art and myself went down to Cape Ann today and got wet. We dove Folly Cove for 34 minutes, 10' visibility and a wicked chilly 43 degrees. It was a very nice dive given the conditions. No lobstas yet but lots of hermits crabs and clouds of tiny shrimp. Here's some pictures.

Art found this nudibranch floating in the current and he brought it to me for a portrait.

A couple of anemones.

Here's why they were open in the daytime. Thick clouds of tiny shrimp.

Yay Cecil! Thanks for getting cold and posting wonderful pictures.
You may have guessed that I am THRILLED at the nudibranch posting! Please tell Art thanks for sharing.
I hope you had a hot cocoa and a nice sit-down next to a fire after your cold dive!

Hey Cecil, I LOVE the pink anemone photo!! I havent been in here on Long Island as of yet but the time IS getting near...my gils are drying out and I must get in the water.
We have alot of those Pinky around here all winter long.. I wonder what happens to them when the water temp gets warmer they seem to go away here. Have you noticed that as well, or maybe your water doesn't get as warm as it does here..??

here is a photo of a moon snail that I took last year when we first got in the water..

Wow Cecil, you are much braver than I am. I'm not going back into the water for another two weeks...I love the pics though...I didn't know that there was that much life in waters up there....

Cecil, those pictures are great! You are either brave or crazy for getting in the water when it's that cold! But you did get great shots and have a good time so it sounds like it was worth the cold.

Freddie, I love your pictures too. I never saw a Sea Robin before. Seeing that finback whale breaks my heart. :-(

Awesome photos and having learned to dive in the extremely cold pacific 40 degree water in December in a 6 MM wetsuit on the Southern Oregon Coast, you have my well earned respect for braving the cold waters for your photos. Hope you had lots of coffee laced with brandy to warm you up afterwards. We used to go get hot clam chowder after our cold water dives to warm up our insides. Boy, I don't miss that cold water diving but I do miss that wonderful chowder. LOL Here in South Florida water temp is a chilly 75 degrees at the surface today. I think I'll wait for it to hit 80. LOL, actually, I have to get off here and get my self to work. Hope to see more of your photos soon they really are terrific.

Suzanne

Neat pictures, Freddie. The nudis go away when the lobsters come in.

First day on the new job, very cool place and very nice people. A walled office with a window does not hurt either.

Cecil, Freddie,

Great Pics! Love seeing fish I never saw before! I will not step foot in cold water to dive again, so I miss out on some of the fish in these parts. But, that's o.k. with me. I have BT to look at! :-)

Cecil, you are a deep sickie to be in the water off Cape Ann this time of year. Good on you! I have to talk myself into it in August when its a toasty sixty five (until you hit the thermocline). Thanks for the lobster update, I just painted my buoys Sunday. Guess I shouldn't be in any hurry but it can't be far off.

Wanna know why the blue claw crab's claws are blue?

It's because the water's so STINKING COLD! LOL!

Here's some more from Sunday.

I tried something on this shot that almost worked. When the camera gets wet and you take a shot on the surface there are droplets on the lens that screw up the picture. Some one told me to lick the lens (kinky) and it almost worked, just some small drops. This is looking back at the beach (such that it is) at Folly.

Some more Anemones.

Anemone4

Anemone5
This last one I had highs hopes for, but its a loser. Blind shot with the camera against the wall looking up.

Hi,

Love to arrive in your neck of the deep blue wood. While I've never been, have always wanted to as am told is the mecca of the Caribbean. Have only been diving on wrecks in Maryland, USA, North Carolina, USA and South Carolina, USA. Are there many wrecks in Bonaire's waters?

Also, love the crab photo. Am from land of crabs, Ye Ole’ Maryland. Didn’t realize were some down there.

Eliza

Welcome again, you will find out that BT[Bonaire Talk} is quite addicting!! Have fun.
