Thanks for the views of Aruba Ilona. Can you tell me the site where you found these? Since the Bonaire web cams are in a sort of protected area, we saw few large waves like these. I'm sure from what I've heard on other threads that there were huge waves elsewhere. Just trying to follow the storm as we were supposed to be in Bonaire, unable to fly, planning to reschedule later this year. But my home is on the gulf side of Florida...so who knows what will happen. I though Charley was enough, then Frances, I fear we might be totally wiped out if Ivan hits hard. Oh well...guess we'll just have to move to Bonaire! Thanks, Fran

Those look like what's left of the fisherman's huts near Malmuk Beach....wow! That's impressive surf! The car must have been snatched up from the roadside and dragged back down to the water's shorline....or is this Arashi Beach? Hard to tell. Anyone know? Not many beaches have the huts on Aruba...public beaches, at least. Both Arashi and Malmuk Beaches are on the Northwestern side of Bonaire where the impact might have been at its hardest. Wow.

I have to find out how the Divi held up on Aruba...we have a timeshare there as well as on Bonaire. We only go to Bonaire now, but.....Carole

Carole, I thought it was Arashi beach, have been there last year. Wow, what a surf! Thanks for sharing the pictures with us, Ilona.

According to a neighbor whose mom lives in Aruba, there's quite a bit of flooding thanks to a massive rain storm last night (Thursday night) - his mom said she hadn't see anything like that in a very very long time, and she also said that this morning folks were being advised (via the radio) to not venture out because of the flooding, and because another rain storm appeared to be heading their way.

Saw some of those photos on the other thread...unreal. Horrible, horrible flooding on Aruba. I hope things can return to "normal" sometime soon for everyone over there.

I recall the brown, brown, chocolate brown waters stirred up at Arashi Beach after one serious rainstorm while we were on Aruba years ago....chocolate brown just like the photos on the other thread...we thought, perhaps, the "new" golfcourse (it was brand new at the time) had caused a runoff from their property down towards Arashi Beach..they swore it was not caused by the golfcourse, however but just the earth in that area and the water being kicked up. It was definitely not safe to swim in it for several days later. Arashi is our favorite little spot on Aruba...fun to hang out with the locals and the pelicans!

Thanks for the reports and links, everyone. Carole

Karin, the more I look at the photos on the full page of shots the more I think that is Baby Beach with the car in the water and the huts flipped, etc. Here is the link to the full page of photos from Aruba....I do think the first shots are down by Baby Beach, tho.

Some of the shots are down past Baby Beach by the Pet Cemetery, too...that's where you can see the high surf and a few folks in SUV's checking things out.

We've been on Aruba with heavy torrential rains where the main roadway has had a "lake" appear between the North and Southbound sides, but not as bad as this. This is just horrible. I understand more rain is on the way, too. Carole

PS It also appears as though there is still a lot of new building construction going on now....I guess the building moratorium has expired...that's too bad...way too developed now.

PPS Jake...I hope I haven't infringed on any posting policy...if so, please forgive me and feel free to delete the posting. I just thought these pics could show how lucky Bonaire was with Ivan just skirting her...cb

PPPS I hope I am not infringing on Kaboobie.com's copyrights by posting the link, either....wow...I think I digging myself in deeper and deeper here.....cb

Carole,

Your post is excellent and exactly what what I was alluding to as proper posting of information at other sites - you are giving a personal impression of what's in the photos (like where they were taken) based on your personal knowledge, and you provided a link to the source so people could judge and see for themselves. Keep at it :-)

And I agree, Bonaire lucked out compared to Aruba, and most any other place Ivan has or will be visiting, no doubt. Those pictures from Aruba are something else. Particularly poignant are the folks pointing out the high water marks at the gas station and food market. Yow.

Jake

Carole, you are completely right about Baby beach. This morning I saw the picture with the car in a Dutch newspaper, and it stated that someone lost his car at Baby beach.
Poor Arubans! Hope the water will sink in soon!

We used to party on the beach in our cars in Fernandina Beach FL as kids. Park to close and a little surf rolls under the car and poof you are stuck. If the tide is coming in you have about half hour to dig and drag it out. Everytime water swirles around the tires it will sink a quarter inch. I have seen cars buried to the tops of the doors...nothing but a car roof sticking out of the sand.
