To be or not to be
a registered user.

While you do not have to be a registered user to read and explore our discussion board to learn more about Bonaire, you do need to register if you want to post messages. Registration allows users who post messages to also configure their profile to receive copies of replies to their posts by e-mail - a real time saver! Registered users also get the full benefit of the new message option, as well as being able to configure their browsers to always remember their login information so that they don't have to re-enter it each time they want to post a message.

So, if you're new to this newsgroup, and would like to register to post message now, please click the button above. You will receive a password immediately upon filling out the registration form, as well as a copy of it via e-mail. Once you have your initial password, we suggest you edit your user profile to set the password to something you will better remember.

Edit ProfileClick on this icon in the menu bar to edit your user profile. You will need your Username and Password to enter your profile. You can choose to add personal information including your interests and a photo. You may also select to have new messages automatically sent to your e-mail address. This is quite helpful if you are waiting for responses to a question or become involved in a category such as the Bonaire WebCams topic.

Quick Tips for using BonaireTalk

In the graphic menu bar located near the bottom of most pages (and directly above on this page), you will find many tools or options.

There are several ways of viewing BonaireTalk conversations.

Topics This will display the major categories which all the conversations are divided into. This might be a good place to start if you want to ask a specific question.
Last Day All messages created within the last day.*
Last Week All messages created within the last week.*
Tree View Tree view displays the entries like a root system. Some users may find this format similar to other newsgroups.
* You can set up your profile information to have BonaireTalk send e-mails whenever new messages are entered in response to your postings, for certain categories, or for all subjects.
New Messages Clicking on this icon will display all new messages based on criteria you select. For example, you can choose all messages since you last checked.

Formatting Your Messages

FormattingAll the formatting commands and how to use them can be located by clicking on the Formatting icon located in the menu bar. It is possible to BOLD, use colors, and even create tables. But here are some quick tips that most people find useful.

Making a web address (URL) clickable:
Type in the full address including http://
For example:

http://www.bonairetalk.com

The preview will show the link as being highlighted and clickable.

Include an image in your posting:
The image must be either .GIF or .JPG format and be less than 50kb.

Type:

\image{description}

Preview/Post the message. A graphic "Your Image Here" box should appear in the message preview. Post the message and you will be prompted for the location and filename. Click Upload to send the picture.

The most common mistakes are using the wrong brackets like [ or ( instead of {, or typing the filename and address in the description area and never uploading the file.

Some proxy servers or firewalls may at companies may also prevent uploads from occurring. In such a case, please update your firewall software to not block any access or referer information for bonairetalk.com
