Just got back on Saturday. You can pay for the "tag" online. You then show your dive op the proof of purchase and they issue you a receipt after your briefing. You keep the dive op receipt with you for proof of purchase and that you had your briefing, etc. They also recommend that we snap a pic of it on our phones in case we lose it. STINAPA NO LONGER ISSUES BC TAGS. The paper receipt from your dive op is your "tag". The explanation to us was that they found it silly to be taking measures to rid the island of unnecessary plastic......then issuing essentially every visitor a plastic tag. I offered that they are souvenirs in a sense that not many people are discarding, but hey, I don't make the rules!

Interesting. I saw multiple people this week on a FB group saying they took their proof to STINAPA and received a "souvenir" tag, posted photos even. Were you at STINAPA HQ? Wondering if it's maybe they don't give "official" plastic tags but they are still available since so many people want to keep their collection going.

It was my understanding that since this year is the 50th anniversary of the tags that they would give out the tags in shops only (not online), but that after this year there would be no more plastic tags at all.

Trent is correct. They can give you at STINAPA and at dive shops an unofficial souvenir tag to add to your collection, although the paper printout is the official pass. Last year was the 50th anniversary one. I hope they continue to issue the plastic as they are a great reminder of your trips to Bonaire.

We are coming down this June. So the plastic tags may be available? Just ask at the dive shop, like a Capt Dons or Buddys? We fall into the camp of liking the plastic tags as souvenirs.
