Default Long Lease Land Rates 2017

We just received the bill for 2017 and it is 447% higher than in 2016. Has anyone else noticed the same and what are the justifications?

I just received my long lease bill (mailed from Bonaire May 11 to the USA) and my amount is the same as last year. Going in July to pay it-----is that the only reason to go to Bonaire? :-)

Off topic, but I've always wondered how the long lease land works.

Do you pay a fixed rate - or can it change - it sounds like from the original post it can change?
Is it an amount similar to, say, property taxes, or is it quite a bit higher like a rent?
What happens when the lease term is up? Are you guaranteed that the government will renew it, or can they decline to renew? Do the rates go up at that point? IE could you find yourself losing your property when your lease term is up?

You are lucky it was only 447% Ours went up by 1285% a few years ago.
