Default What's the best way to move our household goods to Bonaire for a permanent move?

    Hi everyone,

Well, we've applied for Bonaire residency, sold our house in California and are now setting up the shipping of our household goods to Bonaire for our permanent move on July 28th, 2017. We originally furnished our home in Bonaire in 2015 by buying things from Amazon and Overstock with free shipping to Amcar in Miami, then on to Rocargo in Bonaire.

Now, however, we're shipping our household goods and two cars from the San Francisco bay area of California. We're getting quotes now and it appears there are two options - shipping by moving van to Miami and letting Amcar ship it (similar to what we've done in the past) and the second option - having a 20 or 40 foot container loaded here in California and having it sail from the port of Oakland to Curacao and then Bonaire. 41 days at sea.

Any benefits to either that those of you who have moved to Bonaire have seen? We can also ship our cars in the container from California, or ship one car in the container and send the other on a car carrier to Miami to Amcar, then by one week ship to Bonaire (that option allows us to drive one car right up until we leave.) Or ship both cars by car carrier to Miami and then on to Bonaire.

We're getting lots of quotes on costs and will share what we've learned once the process is over, but hoping some of you out there have done this and have some suggestions, and perhaps pros and cons of each method.

Thank you all for your help!

Check with Meyer Moving on Bonaire ... we moved an entire household, including a car, using Meyer. The advantage is that they work with US moving companies and handle everything end-to-end. They arranged for pick-up and packing at our house in the US, transport to port, ocean freight, customs clearance on Bonaire, delivery to our home on Bonaire, unloading & unpacking.

Thanks kob, for the information! We ended up using SDC movers to send our stuff from California. (They lost our bed frame so we're sleeping on our mattress on the floor!) I have a friend who just purchased at Lighthouse Beach, I'll tell her to join this forum too!

    All the best,
    Kate
