    Default Coral damage from Matthew?

Any experience snorkeling after Matthew? It sounds like the south shore was hard hit, and some of our favorite areas are Tori's and White Slave south to Red Slave. Even divers who entered at those points could comment on coral conditions close to shore.

STINAPA has distributed surveys within the last couple days for divers & snorkelers to report observed damage... haven't heard any formal results yet, but viz is a bit crappy in the shallows and there are reports of coral damage as deep as 60 ft

I was there last week. The farther south you go, the better things look IMO. Alice In Wonderland looked like the mountains after a light snow. Sand everywhere. Red Slave looked nice to me.

According to the results of a STINAPA survey the damage seems to be far less than previously recorded hurricanes (Lenny in 1999 and Omar in 2008). http://bonairebest.news/inventory-da...naire-matthew/

We're here last week and this week. Viz has between fair in the shallows. The shallow fire coral at Windsock took a beating, but otherwise the snorkeling had been great. Saw a Queen Angelfish in the shallows at Eden Beach the other day. So nice to see one close.

We've been snorkeling at Red Beryl and Klein so far. Happy to report very calm seas and good visibility. Not a lot of damage to the coral. You can definitely see that there has been some damage but overall things are looking pretty good. Water is quite warm compared to April and there are lots of turtles around. Planning to do Cliff tomorrow. Will update as we go.

Just an update. Tori's reef was leveled for snorkelers. Divers appear to be still using the entrance but far fewer trucks spotted there. There have been some storms and the water is very murky now. Low vis in the shallows. We will try the water taxi later today as it stormed again last night so we will wait for things to settle a little. Such strange conditions the last three days. Wind turned and is now coming from the west. Waves were rolling against the western shore. So bad the boats were taken off the pier near it rains fishes for one day. Settled some yesterday.
