    Default Fire Coral

I've been diving with friends who don't know what fire coral looks like. Some of them have been diving for years with hundreds of dives.

I have seen people touch fire coral that is growing on a ladder when they are exiting a dive or when trying to maintain balance in shallow water upon entering or exiting a shore dive. They don't realize that they have touched the fire coral and wonder how they were stung. Some of them think that they are just touching dead rocks with a yellow film. some think that fire coral is always red.

For that reason, I began taking pictures of fire coral and decided to publish a web page about fire coral to help educate divers on the topic.

If anyone is interested, the site is: http://www.drizz.com/Fire%20Coral.htm

Great info ... One of the "good" reason for always diving with GLOVES (please no flames)

Brings back memories of diving with an ER Nurse back in the 90's in a PROTECTED PARK (not Bonaire) where she was not allowed to wear her gloves. There was fire coral on both the mooring line (where she descended and did her safety stops) and some other nasty's on the current line to get back on the boat. She was out of work for over 6 months recovering.

    Excellent lesson Doc.
