    Default Coral Condition

Returning to Bonaire in July after a three year absence. This will be our fifth trip so we are familiar with the island. We took some time off and snorkeled in Fiji. Highly recommend it! Bonaire is still our favorite mainly because it's much closer to our home in Florida.

We took the break hoping the time would allow the coral to recuperate from the hurricane. In July of 2011, we could see signs of it starting to come back at the Plaza. It was really neat to seeing the young sprouts starting up again. We saw some early signs at a couple other sites but at that time most sites were basically white.

I'm sure Klein's coral is in good shape as it was fairly nice in 2011 but we were wondering how healthy the coral is for shore snorkeling on Bonaire?

    Default Snorkeling Conditions

Would anyone be able to give us a recent reading on snorkeling conditions? Our first visit to Bonaire in 7 years was July 2014. We were shocked at the absence of marine life in the shallows that we were accustomed to seeing (2007 and before) off the Plaza, Bari Reef off Sand Dollar, Buddy's, etc.

It is with great sadness that we are going to have to seek another shore-snorkeling destination (knowing we'll not find one in the Caribbean equal to the "old" Bonaire) unless someone can tell us of a shallow-reef location on Bonaire and/or Klein that comes close to what we saw in previous years.

    Thank you.

Contact Brenda@h20visionsbonaire.com . We went snorkeling with
her the past 3 trips and she always takes us to amazing sites.

There is also Rene's snorkeling trips and the Woodwind to take you snorkeling.
they live there and know where all the special fish life is located.

We've found the best snorkeling on the south side of the island this year. South of the salt pier and north of red beryl. Agree that things have changed over the years but we're finding that there seems to be a cycle where some areas are declining while others are improving. We have never found a better all around snorkeling location in the Caribbean.

Also, don't plan to go to the park to snorkel either. Very disappointing this time.

    Default Coral Conditions Response

Thank you, all, for the current and specific intelligence.

This is a much more active response than we've received in recent times.
