this just posted on FB on forum Bonaire's wall

PROTEST MARCH ATTRACTS THE USUAL FAITHFUL.
An organised silent protest march from City Cafe to the Governors office took place yesterday.
The protest was against the Governments proposed changes to the zoning plan which will potentially allow further development of piers etc,
Around 100 people took the time & effort to attend and while we all thank those loyal and caring people, it was disappointi...ng that there were not many more.
Once the has horse bolted, it is too late to lock the stable door. These proposals need to be stopped now but regretfully, I doubt that the Government will be influenced by 100 people out of a population of around 15,000. They will just use the argument that the majority are in favour (even though the vast majority are silent) and plough ahead with their ill conceived plans. The damage that is likely to occur will be irreversible.
The Dutch are famous for their proverbs. One that comes to mind is: 'De toekomst is een boek met zeven sloten' (the future is a book with seven locks). Basically, the English equivalent is that nobody can predict the future. On this occasion one does not need to be a clairvoyant to know what the future holds for Bonaire. If this Government gets its way, years of planning & consultation will be discarded in the pursuit of the expansion of mass tourism.
They are not interested in who visits Bonaire or how they treat the island. They do not care whether or not there are public toilets, sufficient power output to provide electricity or a waste management system that can cope with the extra visitors. What the Government is interested in is extracting visitors from their Dollars & if they have to destroy the island to do that, they will not hesitate to do so.
There is still time to send a letter to DROB & make your objections heard. Don't let the Government ruin Bonaire any more than they have already done so....
