I copied this from Facebook. Please follow the link and vote for Bonaire's parrots! You can vote everyday!!

You may have already heard this and seen it published, so forgive me if this is repetitive, but in case you haven't yet received word:
I am writing with an urgent request for your support and help in spreading the word: Once again, Echo, Bonaire's Environmental Foundation that is protecting endangered Bonaire parrot, has been shortlisted for the European Outdoor Conservation Association's voting contest. The successful winner from each of their three project categories will win the funding requested for the projects outlined on their website.
Echo needs your support this year in the Alpine category. With just a FEW DAYS to go, Echo is currently in 2nd place.
In just a few minutes of your time, you can help make vision a reality and safeguard the future of the Yellow-shouldered Amazon parrot on our island.
Attached is a press release and two images (photo credit: Sam Williams) which we encourage you to use in calling your readers to support our cause. With just a few days to go, time is of the essence.
Here is the link to the project voting site: http://www.outdoorconservation.eu/project-voting-category.c… (http://www.outdoorconservation.eu/project-voting-category.cfm?catid=1)
The Bonaire Reporter sincerely appreciates anything that you are able to do to help us increase Bonaire's votes. Share with your friends too, lets do it for the parrots.

Yea, like voting will actually save birds. The reality is, the greatest threat to those parrots and other wild birds is cats. Those darling little fur-ball demons. They are predators, they hunt at night when birds will not fly (they cannot see to land). Of course their owners all insist it isn't their darling kitty but the truth is, cats are predators, they evolved to hunt.

If you want to save endangered birds the only effective way is to kill cats, by the 10's of thousands (really). There are millions of domestic cats that go out hunting every night. Most "bird lovers" care enough to talk about saving those birds, really it's all talk. When it comes to eliminating that demon invasive species, the domestic cat, those demon furballs are far more important to them than the native wild birds.

Oh well, we can't fix the world and we cannot save endangered birds from cats.

It is likely that more than one factor is at play here. Destruction of habitat and vegetation isn't good, predation by feral cats and rats isn't good, and trapping by people for the pet trade doesn't help either. Progress in each area is needed. Have a look here for a discussion of issues across the "Dutch Caribbean":

I voted for the project because it addresses one of the problems. But sadly, if the other issues are not addressed, it may not be very effective.
